Classic Waldorf Salad

Late summer in Mississippi gets so hot, there are days when you’d rather not use the oven or stove. This Classic Waldorf Salad with a sandwich can make a tasty summer meal without ever turning the stove or oven on. 

These Honeycrisp apples have a satisfying crunch and delicious flavor. Perfect for this Classic Waldorf Salad. 

This easy fruit and nut salad is wonderfully versatile and pairs beautifully with just about anything. Feel free to add your own spin, such as substitute walnuts for pecans or your favorite apple for the Honeycrisp apple.

Description

Traditional and classic, this waldorf salad makes a flavorful and simple side. The crisp apples, sweet grapes, crunchy celery,  and roasted pecans make a delicious combination.


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups diced apples, Honeycrisp apples or your favorite
  • 1 cup grapes, halved
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 2 tsps. freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup roasted pecans
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup Cool Whip
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Add chopped apples, halved grapes, and diced celery to a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add 2 tsps. freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  3. Add roasted, chopped pecans.
  4. Add mayonnaise, Cool Whip, sugar, and salt to the mixture.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning to your liking.
  6. Chill for 1 hour or overnight.

Notes

  • I used Honeycrisp apples, but you can use whatever you like in the Classic Waldorf Salad.
  • Substitute walnuts for pecans if you like.
  • After tasting, you may decide to add more salt, sugar, and/or lemon juice.
