Description

These Asian-inspired green  beans are one of those simple side dishes that can steal the show. Tender canned green beans soak up a savory-sweet marinade and then get topped with toasted almonds and bacon crumbles for the perfect crunch.  It’s an easy flavor-packed dish that feels a little special, but couldn’t be simpler to make.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 Tbs. butter
  • 3 Tbs. soy sauce
  • 4 Tbs. brown sugar
  • 3 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 (15 oz.) cans cut green beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup sliced, toasted almonds
  • 1/2 cup bacon bit

Instructions

  1. Heat together on the stove top the butter, soy sauce, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Melt the butter and mix well.
  2. Drain and rinse the green beans.
  3. Spread the green beans evenly in the bottom of a baking dish.
  4. Pour the sauce over the green beans.
  5. Cover and let the green beans stand for several hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  6. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes – covered.
  7. Uncover and sprinkle almonds and bacon bits over the top.
  8. Bake, uncovered, for 15 minutes.

Notes

  • I use a can opener that creates smooth, touchable lids – no sharp edges to prevent cuts.
  • The best thing about this recipe is that you prepare the sauce to mix with the green beans and let it marinate several hours. A great make-ahead side dish.
  • Be sure to drain and rinse the green beans.
  • You can substitute the toppings with other toasted nuts or fried onions.
